Building on the visual aesthetic we established in Edition One, we designed and art directed the second issue of Brick Magazine. Featuring two striking portraits, the covers were stripped back, containing just the masthead and artist name in a blush metallic foil. Inside, the look and feel of the typography has developed and become more confident with layouts remaining grounded and well-gridded.
The issue contains a special tribute to Phife Dawg, whereby we commissioned 14 artists, illustrators and designers from around the world to create work showcasing their favourite lyrics of the recently deceased member of A Tribe Called Quest. To tie all the submissions together we limited each contributor to just 3 colours, with results as eclectic as the rapper's rhymes.
Partnering with UNIQLO the second issue was launched on their Regent Street store rooftop with a large format exhibition of the best and most iconic photographs from the magazine on display, along with the 14 artworks from the Phife Dawg feature.
